Drawing is the best tool for visual exploration. The challenge lies in it never revealing the full truth but always fuelling further enquiry.

 

Drawing has been a major part of my life. In childhood, using coloured pencils on the back of pre-used paper, through a career making drawings to communicate ideas, for illustrations and decorations, now my art practice continues to centre on drawing. This may be using dry or wet media, on either paper or canvas.

 

I prefer, however,  not to categorise the final work by using the rigid definitions “a drawing” or “a painting” .  Using paint involves much drawing and, sometimes, making a large work on paper with a pencil feels more like painting.
