Didcot produced another decent performance this afternoon in beating Hook Norton 3-0.  Goals from Paul Powell and a brace from substitute Ian Concannon were enough to beat a plucky Hook Norton side who themselves contributed to an exciting encounter at the npower Loop.

bullet

Next up is Grays Athletic on Tuesday when the FA Cup is in town along with the FA Trophy, and of course the Vase.

bullet

Didcot played their latest pre-season friendly at AFC Newbury last night and won 1-0 courtesy of a Jamie Heapy strike just before half-time.

bullet

But the scoreline hardly tells the story, Didcot hit the bar 4 times and missed numerous other chances to extend their lead in what was a pretty impressive display all round.  Patrick Malone played his first game for us, and looked a really exciting prospect on the left, and Richard Bourne and Darren Beckett also looked comfortable.  With Stuart Beavon, Dave Green, Andy Parrott and Bradley Ward all rested/absent there are plenty of players now competing for a place in the squad.

bullet

Next up Hook Norton at home on Saturday and a chance for people to see our pssible new signings at home.

Didcot lost 2-1 at Banbury Utd this afternoon.  Andy Baird put the home side 2 up by half-time but a spirited second half saw Town reduce the arrears with a quickly taken Ian Concannon free-kick with 10 minutes remaining.

bullet

We are delighted to announce that we have now taken delivery of the Vase Final DVD.  Its a must for all Didcot supporters and is on sale at all our forthcoming home matches as well as from the club house during opening hours.  Cost is £10 each.

bullet

In addition we have also a very limited number of FA Vase Winners enamel badges which will cost just £3 and are available as per DVD.

bullet

Didcot gained a creditable 1-1 draw with Winchester City yesterday, just two days after a 7-0 mauling from the pros from Reading.  Against Winchester Town were without at least 6 First Team regulars who would have played a part in the game, so a good outcome in fairness.

bullet

A report for both matches can be found in Season Stats Section.

bullet

Didcot have a midweek now without any games but play Banbury away next Saturday.  There is still some confusion over the situation at AFC Newbury, who we are due to play the following Tuesday - I will keep you updated on that when I know more.  There has been another friendly organised in the shape of Thatcham away on Tuesday 9th August.

bullet

A recount of the gates indicate that there were more at the Reading game than we first thought.  1234 came through the turnstiles and further 100 are believed to have entered the main gate which was used to speed things up a bit.

bullet

An update on the Vase DVD: We were very concerned that the company making this went up in smoke on Friday but it appears that we are OK and we are still expecting delivery by Tuesday.  Because there has been some concerns about when it will arrive we have taken no deposits for this item.

bullet

This evening we kick our new season's friendlies off with a home fixture against a Reading XI.  Reading usually use these games to give a run-out to players that were unavailable or rested in other matches - so assume that those who did not feature in their match at Staines last night will probably feature at the npower Loop Meadow this evening.

bullet

For Didcot it will be largely be business as usual.  Stuart Beavon is likely to play for Didcot before he returns to Oxford for the Yeading friendly on Saturday.  New boys Danny Wise and Patrick Malone should also make their opening appearances in the Didcot red.

bullet

Supporters of both clubs are advised to arrive early this evening.  We are likely to see a few more local supporters, hopefully interested after watching us in the Vase final, and our record gate of 1500 could be broken if the interest of the Reading fans has also been sparked.  Parking is available but could be stretched near kick-off time.  Reading supporters may wish to use train - our ground is 5 mins walk from Station - under Cow Lane Bridge and across Ladygrove Park!  Entrance tonight is £4 adults, £2 senior cits and £1 kids under 16.  Programme is £1.

bullet

Didcot club merchandise will be on sale tonight (near to turnstile) so it would be great to see everyone decked out in red and white again.  The Vase Final shirts (with Final details embroidered around club crest) are very nearly sold-out so you are urged to purchase yours asap because this item will not be available again.  £26 is very reasonable for an excellent limited edition item.

bullet

The Vase Final DVD will be on-sale from next week.  It will cost just £10 and you can reserve your copy tonight provided you leave your name, address and a £5 deposit with Steve Clare (he will be manning the merchandise stand early on).

bullet

Please note there will be no updates on this site until Sunday.  Score and report will appear on message board I expect before then though.

With the pre-season programme starting on Thursday, with the visit of Reading, we are now pleased to announce two major new sponsors of Didcot Town FC.  for the forthcoming campaign Chevrolet will be our First Team Sponsors (which includes shirt sponsorship).  In addition, with an initial two year arrangement npower become Club Sponsors.  his will mean the stadium is now known as the npower Loop Meadow Stadium.

bullet

This is excellent news for the club and we hope that both companies will be associated with us for many years to come.

bullet

We are hopeful that the Vase Final DVD will be on sale by the weekend and the pre-season matches or from Doddy's Bar at all other times.  For supporters who are overseas or exiled from Didcot I will be makng copies available (on behalf of the club) on e-bay (including overseas - nzslap???).  Cost at all outlets will be £10 per DVD (with a small extra mailing charge on e-bay)

SEASON PREVIEW:

bullet

Didcot Town’s new season gets underway on the 14th July with the first of eight friendlies against a Reading XI at Loop Meadow Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm).

The match is sure to be well attended, coming two months to the day that the club lifted the FA Vase at White Hart Lane in front of 5000 of their own supporters. And it’s now hoped that a good number of those fans will have been impressed enough to attend Didcot matches more regularly.

Didcot’s secretary Simon Kelly: “The reaction to that game has been astonishing.  It wasn’t just Didcot winning, but the performance of the team on the day and that seems to have pleasantly surprised those who were watching us for the first time.  Now it’s important that we hold on to these new supporters, because they will be vital if we are to realize our ambitions of football at a higher level.”  Stuart Beavon looks likely to play a part in the Reading game before returning to Oxford for a part in their friendly on Saturday against Yeading.

The new season looks to be a crucial one for clubs wanting to move up the non-league pyramid at Didcot’s level because restructuring should increase the number of clubs at the next step-up.  “It’s possible that 3 clubs could get promoted from the Hellenic Premier Division this season and we will be aiming to ensure Didcot are one of them, and hopefully we’ll achieve it as champions!” Kelly explained.

Didcot’s pre-season programme certainly whets the appetite for what may lie ahead with some high quality opposition both at home and on the road.  After Reading, who are expected to bring along a mix of First Team and Reserve players, Town host the FA Vase champions of 2004 Winchester City on 16th July.  Didcot then travel to Kevin Brock’s Banbury Utd on Saturday 23rd July before the short trip down the A34 to play Wessex League outfit AFC Newbury on Tuesday 26th July.

The highlight of the pre-season games, however, is likely to be on Tuesday 2nd August when Town, the Vase holders, take-on Grays Athletic of the Conference and winners of this season’s FA Trophy.  Both trophies will be on display at the Loop.

Didcot finish their preparations with an away game at Uxbridge on Saturday 6th August and a match on Sunday 14th August against Tooting & Mitcham (KO 2pm), who knocked Town out of the FA Cup last season after a replay.

The following weekend Didcot embark on this season’s FA Cup campaign with a tricky extra-preliminary round tie at Andover of the Wessex League.  Victory there would see the Railwaymen traveling to fellow Carterton on the 27th August.

In the GLS Football Hellenic League Didcot kick-off against Witney United (as they did last year).  The Bank Holiday fixture on 29th August will see Town playing against neighbours Milton United at the Heights.

bullet

Apologies for the lack of updates, it has been a relatively quiet time but with the players returning from holidays and training having started on Tuesday we will have a clearer picture of which players will be with us this season.

bullet

There are a couple of new faces at training, most notably Danny Wise and Patrick Malone.  Wise has a proven record as a striker in local football both at Oxford City and last season at Abingdon Town.  Paddy Malone is a young player who caught the eye of most Didcot fans last season with two excellent performances against us for Milton United last year.  No confirmation that either has actually signed however.  watch this space.

bullet

i am aware that Dave Green, Chris Webb and Matty Jack have all put pen to paper so with the others already confirmed it appears Stuart is assembling a good squad for the new campaign.

bullet

Big question, I suppose, is whether Stuart Beavon will be with us this year.  well, nothing on that front yet.  Rumour has it Stuart is doing well in training with Oxford but we will have to wait and see what occurs.

bullet

A brief update on the commercial front.  We should be taking delivery of a superb DVD showing full unedited footage of the Vase Final with commentary provided by BBC Radio Oxford within the next fortnight.  I have seen a preview, its brilliant, and its a must have for all who went to White Hart Lane in May.  More details will be made available, and how you can get your copy, on here in due course.  Needless to say that they will be sold at pre-season matches when they are with us.  Likely cost will be £10.

Sunday 2nd July 2005

bullet

Didcot have been given a tough FA Cup draw, Andover of the Wessex League away in the Extra Preliminary Round on August 20th.  The winners face an away tie at Carterton a week later.

bullet

Both Paul Powell and Grant Goodall have signed for the club for the new season, two key players in Stuart Peace's team which he hopes will go one better in the League this year.  More players should be confirmed this week.

bullet

Stuart Beavon has his week long trial at Oxford starting Monday - we wish him well.
