Didcot
fell to their first defeat
at the Loop this season with a disappointing 2-0 reverse against
Highworth Town yesterday. |
 |
Didcot were not at their
best and can have no complaints about the scoreline although had we
taken our chances things could have been very different. Full
report in Season Stats section. |
 |
Bishops Cleeve didn't play
yesterday so we remain top of the Premier Division, but only just as
Highworth and Slimbridge have made up ground on us. It looks to be
another very tight finish to the League again this season. |
 |
The First Team are next in
action next Saturday for the FA Vase Quarter Final tie with Bury Town.
A full match preview will be posted on this site later this week - Don't
miss it! |
 |
The Reserves won 3-0
yesterday to keep their interest in the Reserve Cup going. |

Didcot
entertain fellow title
contenders Highworth Town at the Loop on Saturday with both clubs
desperate not to drop points as the season reaches a crucial period. |
 |
Stuart Peace will have to
test the strength of his squad this weekend with suspension and injuries
coming at the wrong time. Stuart Beavon misses out through
suspension, Dave Green (foot) is a major doubt as is Joey Beauchamp
(ankle) who has missed three weeks following injury against Bicester.
Skipper Jamie Heapy has been sidelined for two matches and he will face
a late fitness test as will Ian Concannon who has a tight hamstring. |
 |
Highworth have already
beaten us this season in the League and Didcot will have to be at their
best not to slip-up again. |

DON'T FORGET THE 2nd ANNUAL PROGRAMME AND

Didcot produced an abject
performance at Bicester yesterday but still managed to do enough to win
3-1.
Relegation threatened Bicester looked anything but and only two late
goals settled the nerves. With Cleeve and Slimbridge both losing
we are now one point clear at the top. |
 |
Ian Concannon was again
the hero and his second goal in particular was trademark Conners, coolly
beating the keeper when put clean-through. The game will not be
remembered for much else except a odd refereeing display by Tom
Hazeldine who gave one of the strangest penalty decisions I've ever seen
when he adjudged Danny Campbell to have fouled Mark Scanes in the first
half. |
 |
Next Saturday's game
against Highworth now takes on extra significance because they are now 9
points behind us after topping the table for much of the season. |
 |
The Reserves lost
narrowly 1-0 yesterday to Wootton Bassett which is a big blow in the
League title aspirations. |

Didcot travel to basement
club Bicester Town on Saturday looking to stretch the winning run to 11
matches. Joey Beauchamp is very doubtful following his injury
against Milton Utd and Dave Green is likely to be rested, otherwise
Stuart has a full squad to pick from. |
 |
Bicester are coming into
the game on the back of two dreadful results having conceded 15 goals in
the past 7 days. However, Tim Fowler has recently taken charge of
the Foxhunters and they have a number of new signings who, on the face
of it, should improve their season no-end. Last season Didcot
returned with a narrow 1-0 win courtesy of a Jack King piledriver and
this year could be just as tight. Full Report On-line on Sunday. |

The Reserves are in
action tonight at Abingdon Utd as they look to put pressure on the clubs
above them in the Reserve Div One table. |

Didcot beat in-form
Henley this evening 5-0 to keep the pressure on League leaders Bishops
Cleeve. They also won by the same score at Milton so we remain 2
points behind them in second place in the Premier Division. Full Report
of Didcot's win tonight in Season Stats Section. |
 |
The main talking point
about tonight's match, except for the fantastic all-round display, was
the excellent scoring return of young striker Graham Edney. Graham
notched 2 second half goals, the first a terrific volley from outside
the box. |
 |
Next First Team game is
at Bicester on Saturday while the Reserves travel to Abingdon Utd this
Thursday. |

Didcot's reward for their
FA Vase triumph at Colne is a home tie against Bury Town of the eastern
Counties Premier Division. The game will take place at the Loop
meadow on Saturday 5th march (KO 3pm). Winners of this tie will go
into a 2 Leg semi-final (both games to be played in March). |
 |
Bury (from Suffolk) are
currently second in the League to runaway leaders, and Vase favourites,
AFC Sudbury. They have been beaten just 4 times in 24 League
matches and have an average home crowd of about 130. Notable
scalps for them in the Vase competition this year are Lymington and New
Milton (who they beat in the 5th Round), Potton Utd and Ilford. |
 |
Ex-Didcot Youth player
Graham Edney has rejoined us after 2 years away at Milton Utd and
Abingdon Utd. Edney, who has an impressive 19 goals to his name
this season, signed on Sunday and joins the squad for tomorrow night's
vital League game with Henley Town at the Loop. Kick-off is
7.30pm. |

A brilliant team
performance yesterday saw Didcot upset the odds to reach the last 8 of
the FA Vase at the expense of last year's semi-finalists Colne. |
 |
Town played up the slope
and against the elements in a quiet first half. Colne took an
early lead through Ian Simpson but they failed to trouble Chris Webb in
the Didcot goal and Town went-in the happier despite being one down. |
 |
Things were very
different after the break in a pulsating second half that saw chances at
both ends. Ian Concannon missed a great chance to level before
Didcot had a slice of luck.
Bradley Ward's cross flew straight over the keeper and Didcot were
on-top. In the 54th minute Andy Parrott scored following a good
cross from Paul Powell, and then Parrott thumped the crossbar as Didcot
threatened to run away with it. |
 |
However, a slip from Webb
let Colne back-in and from then-on it could have gone either way. Colne
keeper Ross Baxter saved brilliantly from Parrott and Beavon before
Didcot scored the winner 6 minutes from time. Powell played a
superb ball to Beavon who took his time before firing low past Baxter.

Didcot's fantastic
travelling support went bananas at the final whistle and we now await
the draw on Monday morning to see who we face in the Quarter Finals. |

Kick-off is 7.30pm. |

Didcot moved into second
place in the League with a battling 2-1 win at much improved Ardley Utd
last night. Town went 1 up in the first 5 minutes through Ian
Concannon, and continued to dominate playing up the slope in the first
half. Concannon had another goal disallowed and then hit the
inside of the post as Didcot threatened to run away with it.
However Ardley levelled before the break and then had good chances
themselves to go in front. With 15 mins left Stuart Beavon thumped
the ball home past Paul Tassell to score the winner. In the last
minute Roid Dorrian earned Didcot a penalty. Concannon hit the
post for a second time but it wasn't costly as the match ended seconds
later. |
 |
The First Team of course are next in action on Saturday in the FA Vase
5th Round tie at Colne. Arguably the biggest game in our history,
we are looking to reach the last 8 of the competition for the first
time. |
 |
Colne have a good history in the
Competition having reached the last 4 last season before falling to this
season's clear favourites AFC Sudbury over two legs. Colne have
concentrated all their efforts on the Vase in recent weeks after falling
away in the North West Counties League, and they have rested key players
in preparation for the game. Town will have key players missing,
Matty Jack and Joey Beauchamp are cup-tied and Danny Campbell is
suspended. The good news is there were no new injuries as a result
of last night's match. Supporters travelling on the coach must be
at the Loop Meadow to depart at 08.30 hrs sharp on Saturday morning.
Colne are reported as expecting a bumper 500+ crowd so next get behind
the lads in Lancashire! |

The Reserves' match at
Abingdon Utd was called off last night - will be re-arranged for next
week I believe. |

Didcot claimed another
narrow 1-0 win yesterday this time against Milton United at the Loop.
Andy Parrott was this time the hero with a late goal but Milton proved a
tough nut to crack and all credit to them for playing attractive
attacking football. Full Report
in Season Stats Section. |
 |
Next-up is Ardley United
away on Tuesday before the long trek to play Colne in the Fa Vase next
weekend. That game will be previewed online later in the week. |
 |
The Reserves' excellent
run in the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup came to halt yesterday with a
5-1 defeat at a rampant Eton Wick. No disgrace in the result
though and they've done brilliantly to go this far in the Competition. |

Didcot claimed a 1-0 win against
near-neighbours Abingdon Utd courtesy of an Ian Concannon goal midway
through the half It was a rather scrappy game but Town deserved
the points and move up into 3rd in the League above Highworth for the
first time in two months. Full Report

The First Teanm are back in action on
Saturday with yet another derby this time against our nearest rivals
Milton Utd. hopefully the injury to Stuart Beavon was not too
serious but he will be a doubt for Saturday. Joey Beauchamp and
Dave Green should have recovered from flu and Grant Goodall is back in
contention following his recent groin problem. |
