Links to most major UK adventure racing websites
Ace Races  -  Series of four races this year, Forest of Dean, Snowdonia, Cumbria and Yorkshire. Most races involve orienteering, canoeing, night navigation, mountain biking and trail or fell running. Solo, pairs and mixed teams of three compete over a weekend, with a base camp to return to between stages.
Adventure Racing UK  -  Website dedicated to adventure racing, set up by the KIMM team. Race calendar, forum, find a partner (not match-maker !!), help and tips for all racers, gear reviews, interviews and newsletter.
Blue Eskimo  -  Race series for mixed teams of four. Mountain biking, running, canoeing, climbing and abseilling over mountainous terrain. Also organisers of off-road duathlons, solo or pairs. Lots of interesting info.
Green Extreme  -  Multi sport eco-challenge site.
Helly Hansen Three Peaks Yacht Race  -  Starting from Barmouth and finishing at Fort William, runners must visit the tops of Snowdon, Scafell and Ben Nevis (Ravenglass/Scafell leg involves a 32 mile run). Don't enter if you get sea-sick!
Hi-tec  -  After a hugely popular first series in the UK in 1999, three events are organised for 2000. Loch Lomond, Llanberis and Marlborough Downs, mixed teams of three mountain bike, canoe and run the short course, with other challenges thrown in.
KIMM  -  Karrimor International Mountain Marathon site. Held in a different, secret location each October, pairs navigate to controls and a wilderness camp over a weekend. New catagories may be added this year. Site contains lots of useful info, chat room, forum, online gear sales, etc.
Lakeland Challenge  - Woodenspoon organise this race around Scafell. Teams of four canoe 10 miles, cycle 25 miles, and run over Scafell. Information on other woodenspoon challenges on the website.
LAMM  -  Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon held in Scotland each year at a secret location. Teams of two visit controls in order and camp in a wilderness area, other challenges may appear. Weekend event and very popular. Similar to KIMM in format.
Polaris  -  Mountain bike orienteering over two days. Pairs visit controls and camp overnight at a wilderness site. Winter and spring event staged in remote locations, more relaxed and sociable summer event held in North Yorkshire, when solo entries are permitted. Forum on website.
Salomon X-mountain  -  35 hours of racing for teams of four, including sea kayaking, mountain biking, orienteering and fell running.
Trailquest  -  Trail Cyclist Assn organised league for mountain bike orienteering throughout the UK. Short (2 hour) events and weekend races. Good training for Polaris event. Tips, links, help, and contacts on site.
Tough Guy Challenge  -  Brutal assault course, this year with electric fences, barbed wire, rat runs, water filled tunnels, and many other barmy obstacles to overcome on this 8 mile course. Summer and winter events staged in the Wolverhampton area. Check it out (but don't enter.....)
Western Isles Challenge  -  Long distance challenge across the Hebridies on foot, by sea kayak, on via mountain bike. Teams of four in relay, with at least 50% to be covered on foot, or if you are super-fit, solo.
