14 year
old Lewis Clifford-Stephenson completed a hat-trick of wins with
two more victories in this weekends Essex Championships. He
retained his title as Essex Champion in both the 100m and 200m
breaststroke to add to the
50m title he picked up at an earlier meeting. After storming
home by a wide margin and a new personal best in the heats of
the 100m race he went even faster in the final to dominate the
race from start to finish, and rounded off a fine weekend’s
performance with an equally impressive 200m win.
Katinka
Merchan claimed top spot for the girls with an excellent silver
in the 200m backstroke in the 15 years category, whilst Henny
Andrews produced a new personal best in the 200 16+ years
breaststroke to end in 3rd place after a terrific swim.
One of the
most consistent performers over the weekend had to be 11 year
old Molly Sparks who claimed a 3rd place in the 200
backstroke to add to her 4th spot in the 100 event, 5th
in the 1500 freestyle and 6th in the 100m free.
George
Crow continued to impress with two top six performances over the
weekend, his best in the tough 1500m where he won 4th
place in the 12 year category, marginally missing out on a
podium spot with a well paced and determined swim. He later
added 6th in the 200 freestyle ahead of team mate
Toby Andrews who also recorded a personal best. Jon Congdon
recorded a 6th in the 16+ age group.
Dean
Smith, swimming in the 16+ age group had two top six
performances taking 4th in the 200m Breaststroke and
5th in the 100m backstroke final.
Holly
Jackson claimed a new Pb in the heats of the 15 year old 100m
fly to ensure her place in the line up for the finals. Swimming
in the next lane to team mate Katinka, Holly just had the edge
with a powerful swim to take 5th spot.
Harry Fox
at 9 years led the charge for the young guns with a great swim
and huge personal best in the 200 ‘fly, whilst older brother
Charlie picked up 8th in the same event.
There were
new Pb’s too for 10 year old Connor Kearns and Mikaela Kennedy,
whilst the Robinson brothers, Daniel and Aiden also improved on
