Killerwhales
ended their 2006 Essex League Gala Division 2 season with a very
creditable 3rd place after two unfortunate
disqualifications gave local rivals Romford B second spot by
just one point.
Boys captain
Dan Hime got Killerwhales first win of the evening in race 4
with a storming 50m fly, he then went on to win the 100m
Breaststroke in equally impressive style. Girls captain Laura
Andrews also showed the way with a superb 100m freestyle
performance. There were further wins in the open section for
both the boys and girls 4 x 1 length Medley Relay quartets for
the boys Tom Bircham (back), Adam Conway (breast), Dan Hime
(fly) & Ben Clifford-Stephenson (free) and for the girls Kirsty
Forbes (back), Henny Andrews (breast), Lauren Andrews (fly) and
Laura Andrews (free). Both foursomes combined in the 4 x 50m
freestyle relays and both again were victorious. Dean Smith and
Kirsty Forbes were both second in the 100m Open backstroke. Ben
Clifford-Stephenson was 3rd in the Open 100m
freestyle as was Lauren Andrews in the Open 50m butterfly.
In the under
15 years age group their were wins for the Robyn Beadel in the
100m backstroke, Lauren Rouffe in the 100m freestyle and Dean
Smith in the 100m breaststroke. Dean also swam the breaststroke
leg of the 4 x 50m medley relay were he joined forces with Dan
Bleach (backstroke), Johnny Congdon (breaststroke) and Scott
Jackson (freestyle) who brought the boys home first in fine
style. The same 4 lads combined in a different order in a
thrilling 4 x 50m freestyle relay where they played catch-up
against an impressive Becontree Bees quartet, both team were
judged to have the same time but the gala referee judged
Killerwhales the winners. Dan Bleach continued his recent run of
good form taking two second places in the boys 50m butterfly and
100m backstroke. Kalei Andrews another whale showing good recent
form swam very strongly to claim 3rd place in the
girls 50m butterfly. Johnny Congdon also finished in 3rd
place in the 100m freestyle.
The under 13
years boys and girls teams also took vital points in their
races. Jodie Momodu won the girls 50m breaststroke, as did Lewis
Clifford-Stephenson in the boys version. Lewis went on the take
further 1st place in the 50m butterfly. He combined
with Toby Andrews, Tom Webb and Tom Skingsley to take 2nd
place in the 4 x 50m freestyle relay. The same four were to come
home second in the medley relay but disqualified for a faulty
start. Tom Webb produced a powerful display to take second in
the 50m freestyle. There were 3rd places for Heather
Wilson and Toby Andrews in the 50m backstroke and Jodie in the
50m freestyle. Jodie and Heather joined with Georgia Beadel and
Molly Sparks to finish in 4th place in both relay
events.
In the under
11 years age group Cassie Beadel swam to a fine 3rd
place in the 50m backstroke, she also took 4th place
in the 50m breaststroke. Molly Sparks swam two individual races
finishing 5th in both the 1 length fly and 50m
freestyle. For the boys George Crow swam to 4th in
the 50m backstroke, Aiden Robinson also took 4th in
the 50m freestyle and then took 5th in the 50m
breaststroke which was the same position for Sean Houlihan in
the 1 length fly. The boys combined to finish superbly well in 2nd
place in the 4 x 1 length freestyle relay. Not to be outdone the
girls quartet had also secured 2nd place. The two
quartets went on to record the same results in their respective
4 x 1 length medley relay races where both finished 3rd.
In the final
event the squadron relay the Killerwhales team of Molly Sparks,
George Crow, Jodie Momodu, Lewis Clifford-Stephenson, Lauren
Rouffe, Dean Smith, Kirsty Forbes and Dan Hime were in a battle
to keep pace with the other teams but strong and determined
individual performances brought the eight home in third place
and secured the squads overall 3rd place.

Runneymede SC who are promoted to division 1 for next season.
Well done to all other teams for making this years League
competition an interesting and competitive challenge.
