Killerwhales
swimmers were in truly inspirational form at Essex ASA Country
Championships and Age Groups, Block B Competition over the
weekend at Waltham Forests Pool and Track complex. There were
four new championship titles won, a clutch of silver, bronze and
place medals plus a host of new personal best times achieved
over a weekend of intense swimming.
Jodie Momodu
took both the breaststroke 100m and 200m County Titles for the
11 year and under age group. Her powerful and very aggressive
technique could not be matched by her rivals allowing her to
dominate the proceedings in the heats and finals.
Kirsty Forbes
had another busy weekend, the talented all-round swimmer was
crowned 16yr and over 800m Freestyle Champion after she produced
a display of controlled pace swimming. In the 200m free she was
just behind the winner to take silver. She also qualified for
the finals of both the 100m fly and 100m breaststroke events. In
two closely fought races she took 5th place in the
fly and finished with bronze medal in the breaststroke
14 year old
Dean Smith was in majestic form over the 2 days, he qualified
for his 100m breaststroke final with the fastest time. In the
final the expected challenge from the more established swimmers
in his age group never materialised as Dean again dominated the
race pulling away at the finish to show he is now beginning to
fulfil his potential. In the 200m breast Dean came up against
stiff competition in Romford’s Grant Chandler who only managed
to pull clear of Dean in the final 50m leaving him in a
comfortable silver medal place. Dean also took 4th
place and 6th place in the 200m & 400m freestyle
events.
Lauren Rouffe
is another who is blossoming into a serious contender in the
girls 14 years age group. She thoroughly deserved her silver
medal in the 100m freestyle having qualified for the final in
second place. In the demanding 400m freestyle Lauren finished
again in the silver medal position, smashed her previous best
time and knows that with plenty in reserve after finishing she
can go even faster. Lauren completed a hat-trick of silver
medals with stunning second place in the 200m backstroke. Not
content with the medals won she also went on to grab fourth
place in the final of the 100m backstroke.
Lewis Clifford
Stevenson showed there is more in his locker than just an
impressive breaststroke by taking a medal in each of his 12
year/under Individual Medley races. He qualified second fastest
for the 100m IM final and although he went nearly a second
quicker in the final settled for a great silver medal. In the
200m he was just behind to finish with bronze. The 400m medley
proved a harder challenge but the gutsy swimmer still took a
great 4th place.
Girls Captain
Laura Andrews was in the medals ceremony for two of her events
in the 16+ year’s age group. 4th in the 800m
freestyle was followed with another 4th place in the
200m freestyle, agonisingly she finished just outside the finals
of both the 100m breast and butterfly when finishing seventh.
Alice Scott
was in fine breaststroke form taking 4th place in the
16+ years 200m event. Having also qualified for the final of the
100m breaststroke she couldn’t quite match her heat time
finishing in a great 6th place.
Boys Captain
Dan Hime competing in the 16+ age group completed the medal haul
for the Killerwhales team with a wonderful 6th place
in the gruelling 1500m freestyle beating his previous best by
over 11 seconds. He went on to qualify for the 100m fly final
where he set another pb to finish 6th. In the 200m
butterfly he went one place better to take home 5th
place.
