KILLERWHALES ARE GO!!!
A Fine Medal Haul for the Killerwhales Youngsters as the new seasons begins.

Killerwhales Swim Club of Havering took its youngsters to the home of Runnymede S.C. for their first gala of the 2005/06 season. The format for the gala was 50m sprints for the four main strokes, these being time limited (meaning those who swim two quick are rewarded with a ‘speeding ticket’ but removed from the final placing). There was also a series of mixed relay’s giving the crowd a further opportunity to exercise their vocal chords. As always the hosts organised the gala in the compact venue extremely well having time not just for the races but also to have an award ceremony for the top 6 finishers.

Killerwhales were very well represented in the medal table with their swimmers taking 45 medals from 77 races swam. Whilst all performed well it was Joanna Johnston and Sarah Thomas who led the way with a first place each and a place in their other 3 races.

Joanna Johnston’s gold came in the 13 year old girls 50m breaststroke, she went on to take bronze in the 50m freestyle and 4th in both the 50m butterfly and backstroke, each was completed in new personal best times.

11 year old Sarah Thomas took gold in her 50m fly in a new best time, she took 4th in the free and 6th in the breaststroke both in new best times, she also took a 6th place in the backstroke. Two other 11 year girls were Kate Dampster and Georgia Beadel, Kate took a fine 5th place in a new best time for her breaststroke. Georgia set two pb’s in her backstroke and breaststroke events finishing just outside the medals.

In the boys 11yr section Luke Endacott set 3 new pbs in the freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke unfortunately a technical fault in the latter event saw him disqualified.

9 year old girls Annabelle Jolly, Molly Sparks and Cassie Beadel all tried really hard in each of their races. Annabelle took 5th place with a great performance in her backstroke event. She went on to set a new personal best time in all of her races. Molly’s efforts saw her rewarded with 3 new best times in the free, fly and breaststroke races. It was in the same breaststroke heat that Cassie had her best swim setting a new best time.

George Crow in the 10 year boys events swim excellently in his butterfly to take silver medal, he also managed a 6th in the breaststroke and two fifth places in the free and back, these two were in new best times. In the 10 yr girls section Megan Little took her first ever swimming medal in her first ever gala when she grabbed 4th place in the backstroke with a new best time, she also set a pb for the freestyle.

In the 12 yr girls Chelsea Buchanan, Megan Davis, Grace Jolly and Lilly King all had at least 1 medal. Lilly won her first ever medal in the 50m freestyle (5th) she won her second ever medal in the butterfly (bronze), her third in the backstroke (6th), her fourth in the breaststroke (6th) and to cap it all she pick up a silver medal for her part in the 12yr mixed 4x1 length relay. Grace took a great silver in her breaststroke followed with a bronze medal for her backstroke and 4th in her freestyle, she was also part of the jubilant relay team who took silver. Chelsea took two fourth places in the breaststroke and butterfly followed with a 6th in the freestyle. Megan took a fine 5th place in her breaststroke event.

Lawrence Greenway had a fistful of medals too, he won silver in the backstroke, bronze in the breaststroke, 4th in the butterfly was followed by 6th in the freestyle. Lawrence and team-mate Joe Sissons made up the boy pairing for the silver medal winning relay team. Joe’s other best place was 4th in the backstroke and a pair of 5th places in the breast and fly. Michael Walsh took the bronze in the backstroke followed by a determined 4th in the breaststroke.

13 yr old Josie Larkin had a fine gala, she took a medal in each of her races. A silver for her efforts in the freestyle was followed with a bronze in the fly, another bronze came in her breaststroke race with a 6th place in the backstroke. Amy Hime was given the same time as Josie for the fly but was judged to have piped her team-mate and took the silver medal, she claimed 4th place in the breaststroke and 5th place in the freestyle. Rebecca Worboyes swam well to take 5th place in the butterfly and 6th place in the breaststroke just beating her team-mate, Alex Turp who finished 7th, Alex in her first gala did very well to claim 6th place in the freestyle.
