JODIE IS SOUTHERN COUNTIES CHAMPION
Killerwhales compete against the best in Southern Britain.

Jodie Momodu became a double 10 year old Southern Counties Breaststroke Champion over two weekends of stiff competition in the National Sports Centre 50m Swimming Pool at Crystal Palace. This years qualifying times were demanding so to make a final of an event would require a tremendous effort, to win a final would be an immense achievement. Jodie took her first title in the 200m breaststroke in which a long battle over the four lengths saw her come home in a personal best time for a prestigious gold. In the 100m breaststroke Jodie qualified in fastest place just in front of a girl almost a foot taller, her rival remarked after the heat how she would “get her” in the final, Jodie’s reply was to remain silent, conserve her energy and let her swimming do the talking. Drawn next to each other as two fastest qualifiers Jodie was dwarfed by her rival on the blocks but that’s where the other girls superiority began and ended. From the start Jodie showed how determined she was and took a slight lead into the turn, down the final length she just dug deeper to open a gap the was never closed, wining by two seconds quicker than in the heat. Jodie was double Southern Counties Champion for Breaststroke. To prove her all round talent she managed a good 8th and 9th place in her 400m and 200m medley races respectively.

11 year old Lewis Clifford-Stephenson was just tipped out by 3 hundreds of a second in to fourth place in his 100m breaststroke final, he also managed a fine 5th place in the 200m breaststroke. Lewis had a very good performance in the 400m medley finishing 6th and later finished 11th over 200m. In his 100m and 200m freestyle events he managed to set two new personal bests finishing in 18th and 13th places respectively.

Katinka Merchan qualified for the 12 year girls 100m and 200m backstroke finishing in 18th and 19th places.

Ellen Scott swam in the girls 13 year 100m and 200m breaststroke to finish 16th and 19th, also the 400m freestyle finishing 20th and the 200m & 400m medley finishing in 36th and 15th places respectively.

Katinka and Ellen were joined by Katie Miles and Georgia Shaw to swim in the girls 11 - 13 years 400m Freestyle and Medley Relays events to finish both as Essex top team. In the freestyle event they swam well to claim 19th place and then faired better to in the medley where Katie (Backstroke), Katinka (Butterfly), Ellen (Breaststroke) were brought home by Georgia (Freestyle) to 14th place overall.
