DIVISION CHAMPIONS
Killerwhales crowned Division III Champions
The Killerwhales won the 3rd Division Essex League title in a thrilling encounter at Fullwell Cross at the weekend. With the Killerwhales only needing to win the final round to take the title Harlow put in a strong team to try and thwart the Whales.

After the first 12 of 48 races the Whales were in third place, with Kirsty Forbes (100 back), Henny Andrews (100 Breast) and Laura Andrews (50 Fly) the only winners for the Whales, it didn’t look good.

In the next twelve races the Whales moved to within one point of leaders Harlow with some excellent swims. James Shelley won with a great swim in 59.89, his first sub minute 100 free. With wins for Jodie Momodu, Toby Andrews and Lewis C-Stephenson, it was then left to the relay teams to bring the Whales right back into the competition.

The Girls open team of Kirsty Forbes, Janine Rayner, Laura Andrews and Kelly Andrews proved to strong for the rest. The girls under 13’s team of Joanna Johnson, Claire Wilson, Katinka Merchan and Georgia Shaw won by a considerable distance to show the new Whales coming through. The girls under 15 medley relay team consisting of Robyn Beadel, Henny Andrews, Lauren Andrews and Ellen Scott also proved much too strong for the opposition. The boys under 15 were not going to be left out either with James Croxon, Toby Davis, Daniel Bleach and James Shelley again proving to strong for some tough opposition.

At the three quarter mark, the Whales took a small lead, again with some excellent swims. Georgia Shaw and Lee Parker in the under 13 free both swam personal best’s to take 1st places. Lauren Andrews took 1st in the under 15 fly and with Daniel Bleach and Heather Wilson both swimming personal best’s they made it five wins in a row for the Whales. Kelly Andrews then took 1st place in the 100 free to make it a great comeback for the Whales.

In the final quarter of the event the Whales went from strength to strength with Katinka Merchan taking 1st place in the under 13 fly, Robyn Beadel 1st in the 100 back and Molly Scott in a new p.b. 1st in the 50 breast.

It was now down to the final events, the freestyle relays with the Whales winning six out of seven of the final races. Georgia Clarke, Katinka Merchan, Joanna Johnson and Claire Wilson set the ball rolling with a win in the under 13’s. In the under 15’s the same quartet that won the medley relay won comfortably to take 1st place again and it was the same for the boys under 15’s, same team same result from the medley.

The girls open team of Kelly Andrews, Janine Rayner, Laura Andrews and Kirsty Forbes blew away the other teams and the boys open team of Stephen Dawkins, Andrew Haynes, Daniel Hime and Ben C-Stephenson came up with the same result.

The final race had the spectators standing in the aisles, as the Whales led from the start but there was a storming finish from Harlow but the Whales proved just too strong, to win on the night and the title:
