Killerwhales swimmers battled against the best that Essex has to
offer in the latest round of the 2005 Essex County Championships
held on Sat/Sun 26th / 27th February at
Blackshots Leisure Centre, Grays.
Coming out
on top was young Jodie Momodu who pitted her breaststroke skills
against other girls in the 100m and 200m races. A super quick
heat saw her qualify fastest for the final along with team mate
Molly Scott. In the final both girls showed well from the start,
Jodie maintained her form throughout to come home first leaving
her rivals to fight out the other places. Molly tried her
hardest over the four lengths and finished in a fine 5th
place. In the 200m event, a heat declared winner, Jodie again
dominated the race by leading from the start and then slowly
moving further away from her rivals, she come home first to the
ecstatic cheers of her mother and the other Killerwhales
supporters. Molly managed a very creditable 8th in
the same event. Jodie’s other performance over the weekend was
the 400m Individual Medley where she claimed a bronze medal.
Kirsty
Forbes swam extremely well over her four races in the girls 15
yrs age group events taking 3 silver medals and a bronze in the
100m & 200m backstroke, 400m IM and 200m IM respectively.
Girls
vice-captain Laura Andrews took a fine bronze medal in the
16+yrs 200m butterfly where her team mate Julia Braybrooke
managed to claim 6th place. Laura also claimed a 5th
and 4th place in the respective 200m and 400m
Individual Medley races. Younger sister Henny managed two fine
medal finishes despite not training at all due to flu, a flat
100m heat saw her scrape through into the 100m breaststroke
final when she really performed pushing the winner all the way
to claim silver. She later claimed bronze in the 200m race.
Boys
Captain Daniel Hime had a busy weekend finishing with a great
bronze medal in the 16+ yrs 200m breaststroke. Dan also made the
final of the 100m breaststroke where he finished 6th.
Dan also took 5th and 4th places in his
respective 200m and 400m Individual Medley races. Daniel Bleach
in the boys 13yrs 200m butterfly finished in 5th
place.
