FANTASTIC FORBES.
Kirsty Forbes Re-writes the Record Book at Essex County Age Group Championships 2005 – 5th/6th February 2005.

The Killerwhales Swim Club of Havering were very well represented at the 2nd Round of the Essex 2005 Age Group Championships on Sat/Sun 5/6th February. The gala, due to the lack of quality venues available to the Essex ASA, was held at the munificent Southbury Leisure Centre in Enfield.

The journey around to North London did not dampen the spirits of the young swimmers too much, in fact Kirsty Forbes was in sparkling form as she finished the weekend with two Championship Titles, a silver medal and a bronze medal. A truly awesome performance in the girls 15+ years 800m freestyle saw her home for the first of her gold medals in a Nation Qualifying Time and new competition record time. Her second gold came in a completely contrasting race, the 100m butterfly, after qualifying well in the earlier heat, her superior technique brought her home first in a very quick final. A silver medal was secured in the 200m fly and third place in the 100m freestyle gave her a bronze medal for the set.

Laura Andrews, the girl’s vice-captain, was also in inspired form for the 100m butterfly and 800m freestyle combination, this time in the girls 16 yrs over age group. Laura’s poetic butterfly stroke saw her qualify for the final in first place, an even better 4 lengths in the final saw her home in some style to be crowned Essex Champion, to the jubilant cheers from the KWSC support. A very determined 800m freestyle race rewarded her with a bronze medal.

Jodie Momodu competing in the 10 yrs age group was another medal winner taking silver medal in the 200m individual medley race, she then went on to take 4th spot in the 400m IM.

In the boys events, team captain, Daniel Hime swam in the 16+ yr age group. In a very compelling 100m butterfly final Daniel was just beaten into 4th place. He latter swam very well over the 60 lengths that make up the distance for the 1500m race where he finished in 5th place.

Making her first ever top 6 Essex Championship finish was a jubilant Robyn Beadel whose recent hard work in training paid off when she claimed fourth place in the girls 13 yrs 200m Butterfly.

Yet another butterfly medal went to Lewis Clifford-Stevenson in the 11yrs 100m, his 5th place was followed by another 5th place in the 400m IM and a 6th in the 100m IM.

The effervescent Alice Scott competing in the 16+ age group was absolutely delighted with her 5th place in the 200m breaststroke. As was Henny Andrews who also took 5th place in the 14 yrs 100m individual medley final.

Well done to all of the Killerwhales who competed at the weekend making the long journey well worth the effort.
