Killerwhales were represented at the 6th
Ipswich SC Licensed Open Meet on Saturday 22nd Jan by
swimmers selected mainly from the Intermediate Squad.
All swimmers performed extremely well many
setting very impressive new personal best times over a spectrum
of races distances of 50m, 100’s, 200’s & 400’s.
In the medals
was Robyn Beadel who looked an extremely competent breaststroker
in her 200m race where she claimed a very creditable bronze
medal. In the strength sapping 200m butterfly she looked very
strong and managed to hold her form right up to the end, when
she not only claim another bronze medal but recorded another new
personal best that was within the Southern Counties qualifying
time. Competing in the same 12/13 year age group was Katinka
Merchan who also swam impressively to claim 6th place
in same 200m butterfly event.
Another girl
making her mark in the butterfly events was Julia Braybrooke,
who, in the 16years and over age group managed to take two
medals, a great silver in the 100m was followed with a bronze in
the 200m.
Another
Killerwhale to make an impact in the butterfly events was Daniel
Bleach. He came home strongly to take bronze in the 12/13 years
200m event and just missed out on repeating the feat in the 100m
to take 4th.
The rest of
the clubs trophy’s for the gala came from the breaststroke
swimmers. 14 yr old Henny Andrews competing in the 14/15 age
group grabbed a brace of place finishes when she followed up
taking a hard fought 50m bronze medal with a 4th
place in the 200m. Young Lewis Clifford-Stephenson in the 11yr
and under section took a bronze in an highly competitive 50m
breaststroke race. It was in the same age group but in the girls
events that Jodie Momodu managed a pair of high finishes, she
took 4th in the 200m event followed with a 5th
over the 50m distance. Alice Scott also managed a 5th
place in the 50m event in the 16 year and over group.
