Killerwhales were represented at this weekend 1st
round of the 2005 Essex County Championships by the largest
contingent of swimmers for many a year. All races were over 50m
with heats to decide the 6 finalists who them swam for final
places. Many of those tasking part set new personal best times
showing that the depth of talent at the club is not only growing
but flourishing as well.
Top
individual swim for the Killerwhales Swim Club was that by Jodie
Momodu, competing in the 10 years and under age group. A fine
performance in the breaststroke saw take the gold medal with her
team-mate Molly Scott finishing with a marvellous bronze. Jodie
then went on to make the finals for both the butterfly and the
freestyle were she completed the medal set taking silver and
bronze respectively.
Kirsty
Forbes swam extremely well over her four races making the finals
of each of the girls 15 years events. She eventually bagged a
silver in the backstroke, a bronze in the butterfly and fourth
in the freestyle. Kirsty was joined in the breaststroke final by
Christina Leader and Janine Rayner, a tight race saw Christina
take silver, Janine take a very well deserved bronze and
Kirsty finish in fourth
place.
Henny
Andrews made two finals in the 14 years age group, in close
races she took bronze in the 50m breaststroke and 6th
in her freestyle final. Sisters Ellen and Alice like the younger
sister Molly also made their breaststroke finals, Ellen claimed
sixth place whilst Alice put everything into finishing 5th.
Lewis
Clifford-Stephenson competing in the boys 11 years races made
the finals in both the breaststroke and butterfly where he
finished with a superb silver and bronze respectively.
Also
competing over the weekend were the boys and girls 16/under 4 x
50m relay races where the quartets all made the finals. The
girls of Kirsty Forbes (back) Christina Leader (breast) Laura
Andrews (fly) and Henny Andrews (free) swam extremely well to be
just touched into second place. The same four competed in the
freestyle relay where a valiant effort saw them pipped into
second place again.
A scratch
squad for the boys were just hoping to complete the race and
perhaps scrap a final. After getting to the finals in fine style
all else would be a bonus. In the medley the lads amazed all
with a truly superb swim, Ben Clifford-Stephenson (back), Dan
Hime (breast), Joe Worboys (fly) and James Shelley (free) saw
the lads came home in third, but after second place were spotted
using an overage swimmer the lads were rightly promoted to the
silver medal. Later in the afternoon the boys competed in the
freestyle and delighted the watching Killerwhales contingent by
taking a very impressive 4th place. Who knows what
may happen if they were to practice as a four.
