Killerwhales
SC competed against 30 other Swimming Clubs for the honour of
top club at this years Hitchin Open Meet. A spirited performance
by the squad missing most of its top swimmers and further
depleted by illness saw us finish a valiant 6th overall to
eventual winners Luton SC.
Top points earner for the
club was 11yr old Georgia Shaw, who, with points awarded for the
top 6 places, (first place earning six points down to one point
for sixth place) amassed an impressive 19 points. A win in the
100m Individual Medley was followed with two second places
in the 50m Backstroke and Freestyle races and a third place in
the 50m Butterfly.
Lewis
Clifford-Stephenson continued his return to form after his
broken leg taking points in all of his four 11 year old races, a
second place in his favoured Breaststroke was complimented with
a third in the 100m Medley, fourth in the 50m Butterfly and
fifth in the 50m Freestyle, only a card mix-up prevented him
from a a full-house.
The other
young lady to win an event was Jodie 'Joyce' Momodu who added to
an impressive 1st place in the 10yr old Breaststroke with a 4th
in the Freestyle, 5th in the Individual Medley and 6th place in
the Butterfly. In the same age group Molly Scott won a silver
cup for finishing second behind Jodie in the 50m Breaststroke.
Molly's
sister Ellen competed in the 13 year age group and made
significant contributions to the overall club points tally by
claiming two third places and a fifth in the 100m Breaststroke,
Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley respectively. Two other 13
year old girls grabbing top six places we Robyn Beadel and
Georgia Clarke who managed a third place and fourth place
respectively in the 100m Backstroke event.
Laura
Andrews competing in the tough graded 15+ age group managed a
fine performance in the 200m IM to take 3rd place, she also took
5th place in the 100m butterfly where 17 year old Julia
Braybrooke finished 6th. Laura's younger sister Henny who was
suffering from the beginnings of a cold decided only to swim one
race, the tactic almost paid the ultimate divided where in a
close final race she was touched into second place in the
14years breaststroke.
Another
Andrews, no relation, did very well in her 14 year old
butterfly. Lauren Andrews on her way back to fitness swam very
well in the 100m Butterfly and finished exhausted but happy with
a 4th place.
Completing
the points tally were two young men who are starting register
consistent result in the Butterfly. 11 year Oliver Lewis and 12
year Johnny Congdon managed a 5th place and a 4th place in the
their respective 50m and 100m Butterfly events.
It would be
remiss not to mention the other killerwhales, all of whom tried
their best, with many finishing just outside of the placings'.
Of the 132 Killerwhales swim 53 were in new personal best times.
Finally
congratulations to Luton SC on a good display by their squad, a
big thank you Hitchin SC for a well run gala (although some
cushions for the spectators perches would be nice) and another
WELL DONE to all of the killerwhales. |
