The Killerwhales sent a small
squad to compete in the middle distance events at the above
venue. The three selected events were 400m freestyle, 400m
Individual medley, and 200m individual medley.
There were 28 swims on the night
and 25 personal bests. This was despite the swimmers having
attended early morning training. Personal bests ranged from 1.5
seconds to 58 seconds. The majority being between 15 and 30.
Leading the way in the under 13
age group was Ellen Scott. A young swimmer who has had a tough
time through the last 18 months. Ellen won her two swims in both
400s and set a personal best in the medley whilst doing so.
Killerwhales completed a clean sweep of golds in this age group
when the impressive Georgia Clarke won the shorter medley event.
Georgia also came 6th in the 400 freestyle. In the same age
group making a 19 second improvement in the 400 free and a 12
second improvement in the 200IM was Rachel Green.
In the Under 12 age group Katie
Miles picked up two silver medals in her two 400 swims. She
managed to obtain two Essex qualifying times in the process. In
the 400 Freestyle she was joined by Katinka Merchant in 4th,
Claire Wilson in 6th, Joanna Johnstone in 7th,
Kalei Andrews in 8th and 30 second improver Zoe
Potamitis in 10th followed very closely by Amy Hime
in 11th. In the 200IM Katinka came 3rd,
Kalei Andrews 4th, Joanna 5th, Claire 6th,
Zoe 8th and Joanna 9th.
Georgia Shaw continued her winning
ways by picking up silvers in the 11 year old age group for the
400free and 200IM. The youngest Killerwhale, Jodie Momodu picked
up third in the 400 free and 5th in the 200IM.
The boys were represented by
Daniel Bleach in the tightly contested 13 years old age group.
He picked up a 4th and 5th in the 400 free
and 400IM.
In the 12 year olds age group the
impressive Johnny Congdon and Lee Parker made substantial
inroads into their personal bests. Lee picked up a silver medal
in the 200IM. Unfortunately Johnny was disqualified or would
have been in the medals as well. Johnny was 4th in
the 400 free with Lee 6th.
In the 11year
olds Lewis Clifford –Stevenson was making an appearance after
recently recovering from a broken bone. He picked up silver in
the 200IM. |
