YOUNG WHALES GO THE DISTANCE
Killerwhales at Barnet Copthall Middle Distance Gala
The Killerwhales sent a small squad to compete in the middle distance events at the above venue. The three selected events were 400m freestyle, 400m Individual medley, and 200m individual medley.

There were 28 swims on the night and 25 personal bests. This was despite the swimmers having attended early morning training. Personal bests ranged from 1.5 seconds to 58 seconds. The majority being between 15 and 30.

Leading the way in the under 13 age group was Ellen Scott. A young swimmer who has had a tough time through the last 18 months. Ellen won her two swims in both 400s and set a personal best in the medley whilst doing so. Killerwhales completed a clean sweep of golds in this age group when the impressive Georgia Clarke won the shorter medley event. Georgia also came 6th in the 400 freestyle. In the same age group making a 19 second improvement in the 400 free and a 12 second improvement in the 200IM was Rachel Green.

In the Under 12 age group Katie Miles picked up two silver medals in her two 400 swims. She managed to obtain two Essex qualifying times in the process. In the 400 Freestyle she was joined by Katinka Merchant in 4th, Claire Wilson in 6th, Joanna Johnstone in 7th, Kalei Andrews in 8th and 30 second improver Zoe Potamitis in 10th followed very closely by Amy Hime in 11th. In the 200IM  Katinka came 3rd, Kalei Andrews 4th, Joanna 5th, Claire 6th, Zoe 8th and Joanna 9th.

Georgia Shaw continued her winning ways by picking up silvers in the 11 year old age group for the 400free and 200IM. The youngest Killerwhale, Jodie Momodu picked up third in the 400 free and 5th in the 200IM.

The boys were represented by Daniel Bleach in the tightly contested 13 years old age group. He picked up a 4th and 5th in the 400 free and 400IM.

In the 12 year olds age group the impressive Johnny Congdon and Lee Parker made substantial inroads into their personal bests. Lee picked up a silver medal in the 200IM. Unfortunately Johnny was disqualified or would have been in the medals as well. Johnny was 4th in the 400 free with Lee 6th.

In the 11year olds Lewis Clifford –Stevenson was making an appearance after recently recovering from a broken bone. He picked up silver in the 200IM.
