IN THE BEGINNING GOD CREATED THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH.

3) The Word of God (The Logos).

-d) The Hebrew Scriptures.

The Hebrew Scriptures are founded upon the history revealed up to the life of Moses. This forms the basis of the Torah, the Law of Moses, which he wrote having been called by the Lord to lead the Hebrew people from bondage in Egypt to the promised land, Canaan. The Torah is commonly divided into five books, the last four containing the life history of Moses. In the Greek Septuagint, a translation of the Hebrew Scriptures 200 years before the birth of Christ names were given for the books which we see reflected in translations, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy.

On the foundation of the Torah, the Law (Instruction) of Moses, is built the revelation of the Prophets. These subsequent prophets beginning with Joshua, lead through the period of the Judges to the time of the Kings of Israel. The books of the Former Prophets generally number six, being Joshua, Judges, and four further books beginning with the life of the prophet Samuel, through the reign of King David, the reign of Solomon, and the division of the Kingdom into Israel and Judah down to the captivity into Babylon. (Books of Samuel and Books of Kings).

This latter period, with the Kingdom divided, provided the revelation of the Latter Prophets, commonly divided into the Major Prophets, (Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel), and twelve prophetic books known as the Minor Prophets.

The periods of the Torah, Former Prophets, and Latter Prophets, also gave other inspired Writings of history, poetry and prophecy, numbering thirteen.
Job is a book of a man of God living at a time shortly after the Flood before the time of Moses. There are five books of Writings for the period of the Former Prophets - Ruth at the time of the Judges, Psalms attributed to King David and others, and three books attributed to King Solomon. There are seven books of Writings for the period of the Latter Prophets - Lamentations (an appendix to Jeremiah), Daniel, Esther, three attributed to Ezra the Priest, and Nehemiah.

The entire Hebrew Bible is known as the TaNaKh - Torah, Nevi'im (Prophets), Kethuvim (Writings) and contains the following:

Books of the Torah + 1 Writing.

6 Books of the Former Prophets + 5 Writings.

15 Books of the Latter Prophets + 7 Writings.
