Short with Data
Beverly is often brief, sometimes almost curt when replying to Data. This is seen first in The Naked Now when the immodest mechanoid replies that he has indeed already been documented in several biomechanical text books, after she suggests writing him up in a medical journal: by way of reply Beverly gives out a protracted "yeess, of cooaarrsse" as she turns her wryly smiling head to the others.
Shortly after Jean-Luc has told Data not to babble, in Justice, Beverly enters and implores with the captain that her son be freed from his sentence of execution. When Data comments "Most interesting, sir, the emotion of motherhood....", Beverly concisely retorts "Shut Up!", leaving Data to observe "You were right sir, I do tend to babble".
Beverly display her irritation facially away from Data in The Big Goodbye when he wants to come along into Dixon Hill's office with her and Jean-Luc. Of course Data has no idea that his friends are on heat and the last thing they want is being crowded out by the antagonising android.
In Frame of Mind she gives just a turn of the head to say a simple "Thank you Data", bordering on the dismissive, before quickly returning to face Riker after Data advises her drama student that "Most humanoids have the potential to be irrational. Perhaps you should attempt to access that part of your psyche." Likewise, she tells her procrastinating plastic pal to "Just deal, Data" in Cause and Effect, then later asks "In English, Data" in All Good Things. |
