How
to make your own set of cards for this trick:
Click on
the link for card set 1 below. A new window will open. Right
click on the window and select the print option from the dropdown
menu that opens.
Repeat
the above for card set 2
Cut around
the outlines of the cards and then fold them in half to form
a front and back design. glue the halves together to make
your completed card set.
YOU
NOW SHOULD HAVE:
4
Character cards. They all have identical backs apart from
the Charlie card on which it says 'I found the treasure'.
1
Treasure chest card - on the back it says 'property of Grandad'
1
Prediction card which says 'Orlando found the treasure'
You
will also need an ordinary envelope - on the back of this
write 'Rex found the treasure'.
SET
UP:
Put the prediction card in the envelope.
On top of that put the four character cards in a face up pile
with charlie on top. Then put the treasure card in the envelope
and you are ready!
How
it works:
Take
out the envelope, being sure not to let anyone see the writing
on the back. Take the treasure card and lay it on the table
treasure side up. Lay the character cards face up on the table
too.
Tell
the audience that the your four friends went on an expedition
and one of them found some buried treasure. Explain that using
your amazing powers you will be able to control their mind
so that they can guess who the treasure belongs to!
They
probably won't believe you.
Tell
them to think carefully and then pick up the treasure card
and place it on top of any one of the characters. When they
have done it - give them a chance to change their mind. It
doesn't matter where they place the treasure.
Now
for the clever part!
If
they put the treasure on Charlie:
Just flip over the grandad, rex and
orlando cards to show they have plain backs. Then turn over
the charlie card to show that the treasure belongs to him!
If
they put the treasure on Grandad:
Turn over the treasure card and show
that it says the treasure belongs to him!
If
they put the treasure on Orlando:
Open the envelope (don't let them see
the back) and take out the prediction card which proves the
treasure belongs to him!
If
they put the treasure on Rex:
Flip the envelope over to show that
the treasure belongs to him!
Afterwards
gather up all the cards and put them away in the envelope
to stop people looking at them!
This
trick works on an old principle called MULTIPLE OUTS, in other
words the trick ends in a different manner according to what
the spectator says. Think carefully and see if you can come
