A vague tradition has it that the Darrington mill and Dandy Mill in Pontefract were built by the same millwright who was a Dutchman.

However, this seems unlikely, as the two mills are very unlike each other.

A more familiar view of the mill from recent times.

          It is very difficult to date the windmill without documentary evidence. The machinery however does give us some clues. Although it's likely that an earlier mill stood on this site, the present one probably dates from about 1810.
