This photograph is taken from a Featherstone Rovers matchday programme on Sunday 12th January 1986. It shows Robert (Bob) Spurr in a talented Rovers team who faced up  to a Leeds team then managed by Peter Fox. Bob was hooker that day and lined up alongside team mates  Steve Quinn, John Gilbert, Deryck Fox and Karl Harrison. By this time, Bob had already made 82 appearances for Rovers scoring 12 tries in the process.  Bob Spurr had a distinguished RL career which also included playing for Castleford!

Bob lives in the village now with his family. Both his sons, Chris  and  Mark  are following in their father's bootsteps. Chris plays for Featherstone Rovers and has already scored some wonderful tries. He is developing into an exciting    attacking player with good defence and positional skills. His younger brother Mark is also keen to make a name for    himself in the game.  He has been snapped up by Castleford Tigers.

Rugby League has a fair number of Father/Son players and is proud of its family traditions.  All of Darrington will follow the progress of Chris and Mark in this great sport .
Close local rivalry between Featherstone Rovers and Castleford Tigers adds extra spice to the mix. Bob, Chris and Mark unusually have feet in both camps.
