STEVE PHILLIPS & THE ROUGH DIAMONDS

Steve Phillips is one of the UK's most respected guitarists and a founder member of the Notting Hillbillies. He is also a superb painter, who forte is landscape painting.

His early musical influence was Elvis Presley, and through this artist's earlier work Steve was drawn towards the works of Arthur Crudup, and pioneering blues artists such as Bill Willie McTell, Bill Broonzy and Lonnie Johnson. Steve's solo performances feature the best in country blues, swing and more. In addition he works in a duo with Brendan Croker and in the 80s and occasionally since with Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits fame), Brendan and Guy Fletcher (keyboard player with Dire Straits) in the Notting Hillbillies.

Steve had previously worked with Mark Knopfler in the late 60s and early 70s in a duo The Duolian String Pickers.

As well as solo and duo performances, Steve has his own band The Rough Diamonds who feature Kevin Butler (who lived in Lincoln and played in the Bamboo Beat Band) on bass, Chris Parkinson (Accordion and organ), Phil Moore (piano) and Jack Gibson (percussion).
