GOOD GETS BETTER!

GOOD THINGS CRAFT & VINTAGE SHOWCASE + OPEN MIC SESSIONS (10am - 4pm) - THE HEALTHY HUB, BEAUMONT FEE, LINCOLN

CRAFT and vintage showcase Good Things will be even bigger and better when it returns in Lincoln this month.

Following the success of its city-centre debut at Easter, the event is returning for a brilliant Bank Holiday explosion of new and innovative craft combined with vintage fashion, reclaimed and recycled objects, and much more.

Good Things, a series of showcase events designed to offer young local craftspeople an outlet for their creations, began in the city's West End four years ago but made the leap into the The Healthy Hub, Beaumont Fee, at Easter.

The effect was to allow an even wider range of young craftspeople to exhibit their work and give hundreds of prospective customers the opportunity to see the kinds and quality of craft and other items being made by young people in the city.

"We were delighted at the response Good Things received when we staged our first event at The Healthy Hub. Lots of people came in over the two days and were very impressed with the creations ranging from ceramics, jewellery and cards to items made from reclaimed china cups and plates," said co-founder Maria Lyon.

"This Bank Holiday Good Things will be open for three days and is exhibiting work by even more young people, all of which will be on sale."

Good Things was created by the producers of YoungPlugged 51; the acclaimed series of acoustic open mic nights for young musicians which also returns to the city next month 51; and is being staged at The Healthy Hub from Saturday-Monday, August 29-31. Admission is free.

The venue will be open each day from 10am until 4pm and besides its usual menu, the Hub restaurant will serve a range of cupcakes, ice creams and cream teas for the event.

City-trained ceramicist and Good Things co-founder Natalie Roberts, who runs the Upsy-Daisy label, added: "We are really looking forward to having another chance to show visitors the kinds of talent and innovation the event was designed to showcase.

"We hope that once again people will take some time to enjoy the event, the venue, and the items on display."

The Bank Holiday weekend is also another chance for young people to take along craft or work of their own to show the organisers. They may then be invited to take part in a future Good Things event.

FOLK-ROCK MUSICIANS WANTED

I play Mandolin, Banjo, and guitar....and warble a lil bit.

Searching for a guitar player who can sing. Perhaps with a view to perhaps pulling in a bassist and drummer/percussionist once we get some songs sorted. I don't mind sharing the lead vocals for half a dozen songs or so, that's why the guitarist needs to be able to sing too.

Preferably you'll be based here in Grimsby, otherwise have no probs travelling if you're out of town.

Accent would preferably be on mad frantic jiggy Irish stuff along the lines of Pogues, Saw Doctors, Flogging Molly ...that kind of lively stuff with an added bit of rock.

Please feel free to check out my Myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/mandolinmania hopefully it'll give you an idea of the type of thing I do and like to play, though I am flexible regarding song material choice. I do have gigging experience :)

Interested? Then please feel free to send a message to me at freaky_mandolin@ntlworld.com.

Also if anyone requires a Mandolin / Banjo player with vocals in their band feel free to drop me a line.

Tuxford Arts Festival - Busking 12th July

I'm circulating this to various musicians who may be interested-details are below

I've had an approach from the Tuxford Arts Festival (just over the border in Notts) who are looking for some buskers for Sunday 12th July. This is their first festival ( runs from the 10th 51; 12th July) and they're trying to create some additional atmosphere for what they hope will be an annual event. Because I'm organising the Lincoln Busking Festival (11th July) my name keeps being offered as a contact! I've no problem with that and I think I'm likely to do some busking at this event myself. It's from approx noon-5pm at 3/4 locations within Tuxford. I've said to the organisers I'd circulate an email to various contacts and if your interested let me know. I think in an ideal world he's hoping I can come back to him with about 6 performers/groups and he'll take us on masse! You can collect money of course although I've no idea what the passing audience is likely to be. Sounds interesting anyway. Let me know if your interested, I said I'd give the organisers an indication by the end of this week (hopefully).

There's a website, just google Tuxford Arts Festival.

So if interested send me an email stephen.jackson8@ntlworld.com. Cheers Steve

Busking Events in Lincoln

I'm circulating various musicians performers who may be interested in participating in some organised busking in Lincoln. This is separate from the Lincoln Busking Festival on the 11th July.

The Lincoln Business Improvement Group is wanting to organise some busking activities during the summer for two further areas. They would like to add some atmosphere to the monthly (June-October) Lincoln Artists Markets which are held between Steep Hill and the Collection and also in City Square,Lincoln on a weekly basis for approx 7 dates in June/July. These all take place on a Sunday, late morning running into the afternoon.

I've been asked to put a programme together for this. What I would like to know is if your interested in playing / performing at either of these events.

City Square runs on each Sunday from 14th June-19th July. Tables/chairs are to be provided in the square to encourage people to sit/listen. Buskers would be allocated a slot of one hour twenty minutes each. They would take a short break (optional) during their allocated times which would be:

11am -12.20 pm

12.20 pm - 1.40 pm

1.40 pm - 3pm

Let me know if your interested and which date you'd prefer, email stephen.jackson8@ntlworld.com

A couple of guidelines - Performers to keep whatever is collected and to be reminded that the sale of CD's is not allowed because a street traders licence is required for this. In the event of wet weather, the buskers to judge whether to play, depending on the conditions. All performances to be acoustic based, no amplification.

Lincoln Artists Market is on similar lines and dates are June 28th, July 26th, September 27th and October 25th dates. The 10am- 4pm time period would be split into four slots,so you'd get four different artists/groups located and performing on Steep Hill near The Jew's House.

Feel free to forward this to anyone who might be interesed in performing. I'm intending to start putting the programme together as soon as I get responses, so an early indication of whether your interested would be helpful.

Cheers Steve

Lead Guitarist Wanted

Two guitarists on the wrong side of 40 are putting a band together to initially jam and when we have a reasonable set we can do some gigs. We have a drummer and bassist/singer also now involved and only need an experienced third guitarist to take main lead. Previous band experience would be nice but it's far more important to simply want to have a good time together. Age and image isn't important as we're not looking to change the world; just enjoy playing music live. The style of music will generally be Rock and Blues and we will do covers more than entirely original material, simply because there is more of a market out there for that. Any Bands Interested in Producing a Music Video?

We're Blueprint: Film, a video production company based in Lincolnshire with most of the team living in Lincoln itself. We have over 5 years of professional experience in producing short films, including two completed that were funded by the UK Film Council and two more in pre-production. We also work within the community running filmmaking workshops and producing corporate videos to keep the company running. Our team consists of a mix of directors, camera ops, editors, a designer and a CGI expert so we have all the expertise and equipment needed in-house.

We're trying to break further into music videos now. We've completed one for Wild Messiah which you can check out on our YouTube page, and members of our team have worked on various others in the past, but we'd like to make it a regular service that we offer.

So as you'll probably have guessed, this is a bit of a call out to any bands interested in producing a video. We don't have a huge amount of music video experience so are willing to discount our usual rates but with our prior short film successes and due to the fact that we're a working company we can't offer the service for free.

If you're interested, please email us at: info@blueprintfilm.co.uk

My previous gigging band was "Broadsword".

Interested? Then please feel free to send a message to me at freaky_mandolin@ntlworld.com.

Also if anyone requires a Mandolin / Banjo player with vocals in their band feel free to drop me a line.
