JULIE ELLISON

Julie Ellison is fast building a reputation as one of the UK's leading acoustic musicians. Described by Ralph McTell as "a terrific guitarist who also writes great songs".

"She shared the stage with me at the South Shields guitar festival and the discerning audience loved her. She stormed it!" (Ralph McTell).

She is regularly featured on BBC radio and was billed alongside Midge Ure, Martin Taylor, Martin Simpson, Sting's guitarist Dominic Miller and 10cc founder Graham Gouldman at the recent 'Customs House International Guitar Festival'.

This talented guitarist and songwriter has appeared at venues Lincoln and in the north of Lincolnshire, including the Gainsborough Folk Festival, where she initially appeared as a stand-in for another artist who was ill. Following her performance at Gainsborough she was immediately invited back for the following year.

In spring 2005 Julie played a live session on BBC Radio Lincolnshire on Rod Whiting's Drivetime show.

In the autumn of 2005, Julie teams up with Eddie Baird (of Amazing Blondel fame), to play both solo and duo sets at the Blah Blah in Barnsley. This is an opportunity to hear their individual take on contemporary acoustic music, building on a distinctive blend of steel and nylon strung guitars, in an intimate concert setting.

Julie also undertakes Acoustic Guitar Workshops prior to concerts at selected venues, including a number of venues and clubs including "Mastering 'Clawhammer' finger picking". Places at these workshops are limited, thus ensuring personal attention for each attendee. Advance booking is recoomended.

An intriguing blend of contemporary acoustic music is on offer in Barnsley in November with the collaboration of two outstanding guitarists and songwriters who draw from a wide range of influences in jazz, folk, rock, ragtime, country blues and classical music.

Eddie Baird has enjoyed a long career in the music business. Signed to Island Records both as a member of eccentric trio 'Amazing Blondel' and as a solo artist, he has toured with Genesis, Traffic, Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Cat Stevens and Free. Since reforming in 1997, 'Blondel' have toured extensively in Europe.

Eddie and Julie will be giving a concert at The Blah Bar in Market Street, Barnsley on November 17th, featuring a solo set from each of them followed by a set as a duo. This is an opportunity to hear their individual take on contemporary acoustic music, building on a distinctive blend of steel and nylon strung guitars, in an intimate concert setting.

Earlier in the evening Julie will also be hosting an acoustic guitar workshop, "Mastering 'Clawhammer' finger picking". Attendees are encouraged to bring along their guitars for this practical workshop. Advance booking is recommended, particularly for the workshop since this will be limited to 12 people to ensure personal attention for each attendee.
