We open our 2004 season on Thursday 22nd January with a gig by local favourites Akmed's Camel and Friends.

They will be performing a special concert set at the Eagle Lodge Hotel in Woodhall Spa as part of the club's 10th Anniversary celebrations. The club was originally founded back in 1994 as the Coningsby Folk Club, since moving to Woodhall Spa in 2000, the club re-launched itself as the Heart Of Lincolnshire Folk, Roots & Blues Club, reflecting its position in the heart of rural Lincolnshire.

Akmed's Camel, who take their unusual name from a dance tune written by a Welsh musician, have appeared at the club in the past, performing a special concert back in the 90's that enabled the club to bring two of the UK's top folk artists Huw & Tony Williams to Coningsby as part of their 'Back to Their Roots' tour.

In 2003 they represented the club at the Lincolnshire Show, they are no strangers to festivals either, appearing at Reedham Ferry in Norfolk, Broadstairs in Kent, and Gainsborough Folk Festivals as well as the Pontardarwe International Dance & Music Festival.

Renowned throughout Lincolnshire and further afield as a top ceilidh band, Akmed's Camel will be performing their concert set more suited to smaller music clubs. This will feature songs and tunes with folk and blues influences, including some original numbers from the band's extensive, varied and uptempo repertoire.

Their line-up features Phil Biggs (guitar, flute & vocals), Kim Biggs (accordion), Mark Addison (bass, acoustic guitar), Liam Robinson (diatonic accordeon / harmonium) and Jim Young (drums). Tim Cook who acts as caller for the band's ceilidhs also acts as the band's soundman, and regularly provides the PA for artists appearing at the club. During the evening there will also be appearances by special guest musicians and floor spots from other talented local artists.
