SLIM LINE PAPAS

THU 29 APR 2004

A night of untempo electric blues is guaranteed at the Eagle Lodge Hotel in Woodhall Spa on Thursday 29th April when the Slim Line Papas are appearing.

Over the years a number of blues based acts have progressed from the Lincolnshire music scene and delighted blues fans at venues and festivals in the Midlands and further afield. The Slim Line Papas are a relatively new name but the trio have an impressive pedigree.

The Papas are led by Geordie Pete O'Brien, formerly with Lincolnshire's renowned internationally touring rockabilly band, The Hicksville Bombers. The irrepressible frontman is the band's main vocalist, he also wields a swinging double bass in true rock'n'roll fashion.

Guitarist Egly Lucas has played with numerous Lincoln bands, most notably the long running Walter Harpman Band who appeared on both the UK and International stages at the Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival at Colne. Egly's impressive guitar and slide playing was a major factor in that band's authentic Chicago sound, and his work in the Papas has a similar feel. He also adds some evocative harmonica breaks on several numbers.

Completing the trio's talented line up, drummer Mark Barrett provides the Slim Line Papas impelling rhythms. He was also a member of the Walter Harpman Band and later played with two of the UK's premier blues bands, The Hoax and The Nimmo Brothers.

With this kind of experience behind them and an electrifying chemistry between them the Slim Line Papas are rapidly building a reputation with exciting live performances that couple authentic hip shaking retro rhythm'n'blues classics with the sheer exuberance and verve of rockabilly. Their live shows also have a spontaneity that makes every performance unique, and the band effortlessly draw their audience into the process, resulting in a hugely entertaining show.

The trio have recently released their debut CD 'As Good As Dead ...' featuring songs by Willie Dixon, Walter Jacobs, Hound Dog Taylor and Louis Jordon amongst others. Later in the year they are the headline act on the Acoustic Stage at the Colne Blues Festival.

The show organised by the Heart Of Lincolnshire Folk, Roots and Blues Club provides an ideal opportunity to see the band in concert setting. Doors open at 8pm with music from 8.30pm (approx.), tickets are priced at £5.00 (accompanied children U16 free entry), to make sure of your seat tel. 01526 343989.
