THU 8 JUL
We are very pleased to welcome back 'Cootie' (from Cootie & The Harpman) for a solo performance.
Dick Appleton formed the Cootie half of the popular Lincolnshire blues duo Cootie & The Harpman who made 2 memorable appearances at the club. Long before he teamed up with Ken Mayle though, Dick played on the local folk circuit.
Following Ken's departure to France, Dick has begun playing some solo gigs once more. These will feature original songs from his CD 'The Mother? CD'. Dick is also a highly accomplished and innovative guitar player, his Dickatronix are legendary!
Dick is one of the U.K's finest fingerstyle guitar players, and an 'all-round' musician whose style encompasses many different techniques & types of music.
A powerful blues soloist playing country blues, ragtime and deep delta blues, a concert artist playing totally original guitar pieces, or a singer songwriter who deals with 'taboo' areas such as homelessness & politics, assaults & abuses of the less fortunate, as well as comical, topical songs with an intelligent lyrical twist. Dick's shows are a veritable mix of musical delights and humour.
American musician Sarah Grey describes Dick as "One of the most important songwriters in England today" whilst leading American guitarist Stefan Grossman says "Dick's playing is strong, rhythmic & meaningful". Dick plays National steel & Martin acoustic guitars, harmonica, banjo & mandolin.
Dick who has been performing round Lincolnshire clubs, festivals and venues for many years, has recently released a mini-album the 'The Mother' CD, featuring original songs.
Tickets £4.00 ~ doors open 8pm / concert starts 8.30pm (timings approx)
