This musician was described by Guitarist magazine as "acoustic guitar guru". It's hard to place Eric Roche's music. It's not folk, it's not country and it's not rock or pop, but each piece incorporated elements of all these, as well as hinting at classical influences.
Eric was arguably one of the leading lights in a new generation of finger-style guitarists. Lead, rhythm, bass and percussion flow relentlessly from his guitar, making it resonate generously to the merest touch. His trademark was his percussive use of his Lowden guitar. Underlying this is a profound musical mind, consummate technique and a depth of musical talent. His material was presented in an open, honest, and personable way, with the music tugging at the emotions.
Sadly he was taken from the music world on Tue 6th September 2005, following a battle against cancer. RIP
