·  Married since 1974, with three daughters 1975, 1976, 1979, and grandson 1998. Foster-parenting for Leeds and Bradford Councils between 1981 and 1984.

·  Committee member and Chair of Headingley Residents Association, concerned with monitoring and influencing development proposals 1975-78

·  Committee member and Chair of Headingley Community Centre Assocation 1982-85, to campaign for, and later design, equip and run youth club for a Centre which opened in 1985 

·  Pioneer Group leader, Woodcraft Folk ( children’s organisation ) 1985-1988. Running weekly group and helping to organise annual camps and activities and manage one of the largest Districts. Training in leading outdoor activities. District Liaison officer with Cooperative Society 

·  Catering for Leeds Abbey Dash 1986 to 1997, providing hot and cold drinks for up to 1600 runners

·  Choral singing, since 1985 in tenor section of Leeds Festival Chorus. Numerous concerts, radio and TV broadcasts, commercial recordings, and BBC Promenade Concerts in 1998 and 2001. 

·  Treasurer of Leeds Festival Chorus Fundraising and Social Group from 2002.
