The Garden Village movement took practical shape some 14 years ago, and has since made rapid progress. That Chorltonville fully satisfies this demand is proved by the few extracts given out of many appreciations received from tenants. The founders were fortunate in securing an excellent site. The estate covers nearly 40 acres of the highest and best land on the south side of Chorlton-cum-Hardy-with a prospect of miles of undulating country. It is easy of access, the Entrance being only 5 minutes from the Tram Terminus and 12 minutes from Chorlton Station. The main approach to Chorltonville is from the corner of Barlow Moor Road and Beech Road.

The Soil is rich, with a pure sandy subsoil, and its fertility is proved by the excellent condition of the well-kept gardens which already do great credit to an estate so recently formed.
The Planning and development of the Estate have been most carefully considered, and give evidence of much wise forethought; the best use has been made of all the available space, and the houses are grouped with special regard to architectural beauty and effect.

The Roads are wide and well laid out with grass verges, 7 feet wide on either side, and are planted with trees of various kinds, which already add beauty to the Estate.

The Drainage and Sanitary arrangements are as perfect as modern science can make them all the houses have concrete foundations and are thoroughly dried by the "Turk" Patent Hygienic System, making damp houses unknown on the Estate.
Commodious and Desirable Houses, which combine pleasure as well as utility are provided at reasonable rents. They are cheerful, comfortable, beautiful homes, simply but substantially built, and demonstrate at once the possibilities of economy with serviceableness. Each pair of houses varies in many respects from its immediate neighbour-differing in elevations and internal arrangements-although in no instance has modern convenience been sacrificed for effect. The internal arrangements are in many cases distinctive. In some of the smaller houses, instead of a small dining room and kitchen usually found in houses of a similar rental, there is an ample-sized living room, a good drawing room, and a large scullery with tiled walls. Every house possesses a large airy entrance hall.

The planning of each house is all that could be desired, and provides the desideratum: a convenient, comfortable home. The rooms are large, bright, airy, and well ventilated, and are admirably adapted to the furnishings of the present day.
Electric Light (or Gas if desired), with Gas for Stove and Wash-boiler, and all the latest labour-saving appliances are supplied to all the houses on the Estate - in fact, the houses combine the maximum of comfort with the minimum of work and cost of upkeep.
