From the MANCHESTER COURIER
On Saturday Afternoon, October 7th, 1911,
Mr. HARRY NUTTALL, M.P. for Stretford Division,
formally opened CHORLTONVILLE,
A GARDEN VILLAGE, covering some thirty-six acres,
situated on the South side of Chorlton-cum-Hardy.
In declaring the village OPEN, he said that the promoters were
to be congratulated on carrying out a scheme which realised,
as far as possible, the SACRED NAME OF HOME.
Dr. CHAS. LEACH, M.P., said
the Village showed
how GOOD HOUSES could be built without philanthropy, and
how an Estate could be developed and conducted on SOUND
COMMERCIAL PRINCIPLES.
". . . . The stranger desirous of seeing for himself conditions of housing, under the latest enlightened ideas, may be gratified by a glance round Chorltonville. The interiors being attractive are arranged for comfort. The suite of rooms being compact and conveniently arranged. So careful and intelligent is the general plan that every bit of space has been Utiliscd to the best advantage. The drainage and sanitation-both very important matters in the home-are also of the best."-Manchester City News, Oct. 7, 1911.
". . . . This village is another attempt to solve the housing problem of a great city, and the effect of the winding streets, with their broad grass verges, and the broken outline of the villas, with their prominent black and white gables and expansive bay windows is very pleasing. Light, sunshine, and fresh air have been the main considerations in the erection of the houses."-Manchester Evening Chronicle, Oct. 7, 1911.
". . . . The Garden Suburb idea has been put into operation in many parts of the country, but nowhere with more outstanding success than at Chorltonville. 'The beautiful homes of Chorltonville' is an accurate description."-The Chronicle, Oct. 21, 1911.
