INDEX CANTORUM

||||||||||||||||||||||||||
INTERVAL 15 minutes
Tonight’s concert sets out to explore to the full the spacious and resonant acoustic of St Patrick’s Church. Much of the music in the programme was originally written for the great churches and cathedrals of Europe, and tonight aims to recreate the majestic full choral sonorities that would have been heard on first performance. Although INDEX CANTORUM’s previous concerts have centred on Renaissance music, we take here the opportunity to perform in addition works written in the 20th Century. Today is also Trinity Sunday, a feast day that has special significance within England; Trinity Sunday has been a calendar marker for the Church year, university terms and law courts. Music for the day has always been traditionally lavish, and a selection of the finest European examples is given special prominence in the works chosen.
